Millions
of chickens will suffer painful deaths because UK ministers want to protect
“religious freedoms” for Muslims and Jews.
The UK government
is refusing to introduce a more reliable method of stunning the animals before
they are killed, according to vets. Rules coming into force in England tomorrow
could result in birds remaining conscious and able to feel pain after being
dipped in an electrical water bath.
Research
by the European Food Safety Authority has suggested that the combination of
electric frequency and current used by some halal abattoirs may only immobilise
some birds, meaning that they continue to feel pain as their throats are cut
and until they die.
Halal
producers fear that European Union rules on stunning could result in some
chickens dying before their throats are cut, meaning that the meat could not be
defined as halal. Animals have to be capable of recovering from the stun in
order for stunning to be consistent with halal principles.
Most
animals killed by halal abattoirs are stunned but there is debate among Muslims
over whether stunning should be permitted!!!
Why is
this utterly barbaric practice of suffering allowed to take place?
What have poor chickens done to
hurt anyone? Why should
these poor defenseless animals suffer the terrible misery of being slaughtered
often in the most barbaric and painful way to appease barbaric religious views?
With respect
to Muslims and Jews we are now living in the 21st Century and yet
this appalling slaughter causing unbelievable suffering is allowed to continue
in the name of what - GOD?
Can't the
human race realise that killing any living creature is a terrible crime?
In response to my own question: obviously not!!! - The human race butchers
hundreds of millions of animals of all shapes and sizes and of fish and
other creatures in the oceans every year - and wars claim millions of
human lives too! Aren't we clever?
If this
level of suffering continues then I can only despair of the future of the human
race and this wonderful planet we call our home.
If you can
kill animals so cruelly and thoughtlessly it is no wonder that human life is
thought of so cheaply. - is there no respect for life whatsoever?
I am not
suggesting that the whole world immediately turns vegetarian although it
would be amazingly wonderful if it did - of course that will
never happen - but we can cut back on the relentless and indiscriminate
killing that goes on day in and day out. Oceans that are vacuumed of all life -
animals killed for a myriad of reasons not just for food - forests and natural
habitats destroyed for monetary gain causing so many species to be
literally wiped out - goodness knows how much food is wasted and ending up
on the rubbish and waste dumps? How long can this be allowed continue?
If we (and
by "we" I mean the human race) don't get a grip on
the misery and suffering we are causing in all corners of the
globe there won't be a human race left! OK you probably think I am completely
going over the top with this statement and that I'm talking nonsense - well
think about it before you get on your high horse?
There is
an answer to all of this - its called RESPECT FOR ALL LIFE
If we
don't start to respect and love this Earth we live on and the incredible
plants, trees, flowers, fauna and foods the earth provides us with - respect
all peoples - we are all the same - we have to get rid of all the hatred -
greed - ignorance - jealousy - anger - the attitude of I am right and
everyone else is wrong - my religion is better than yours -
animals are only there to be killed and eaten - that we can
destroy forests for economic/money reasons - the list is endless - in other
words WAKE UP
If
you don't start to develop respect for all life - develop your compassion
and caring for all living creatures and for this wonderful Earth we live on -
we may find humans as a species won't be here one day!!
