FISHING, OUR OCEANS AND THE HUMAN RACE

Fishing and the state of our Oceans

I haven't posted or written a new blog for a long time. So much is happening in this world of ours that I decided to stay silent on many matters that I care deeply about. However, I cannot remain silent about what we are doing to our magnificent oceans and the destruction of the fish population.

I have read numerous articles about climate change, Net Zero and a host of other matters that affect all of our daily lives. However, if we continue to vacuum up the fish population of the oceans, it is estimated that by 2048 there won't be any fish and other lives, such as prawns, calamari, octopus etc left in the oceans.

The Earth has one global ocean, though it is conventionally divided into five principal areas: the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic and Southern Oceans (also known as the Antarctic Ocean).

Here are some statistics ( I thank the internet for these statistics):

The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest, covering about 50.1% of the Earth's surface.

The Atlantic Ocean occupies approximately 23.3% of the Earth's surface.

The Indian Ocean accounts for about 19.8% bof the Earth's surface.

The Southern Ocean (Antarctic Ocean) roughly 5.4% of the Earth's surface.

The Arctic Ocean is the smallest, at about 1.4% of the Earth's surface.

The oceans are interconnected and play a crucial role in regulating the Earth's climate, influencing weather patterns, and supporting a vast array of marine life. This body of salt water covers approximately 70.8% of the Earth's surface.

The Ocean contains 97% of Earth's water and is the primary component of Earth's Hydrosphere, acting as a huge reservoir of heat for Earth's energy budget, as well as for its carbon cycle, forming the basis for climate and weather patterns worldwide.

The ocean is essential to life on Earth, harbouring most of Earth's animals and protist life, originating photosynthesis and therefore Earth's atmospheric oxygen, still supplying half of this. (information from Wikipedia).

Basically, if we humans continue to vauum up the fish and other life living in our oceans there won't be any life left in the oceans and could eventually be the end of life for the human race or certainly life as we know it now.

Please read the following information:

Fishing in the Oceans

"We catch between approximately ninety and one hundred million tons of fish. This includes 2.7 trillion living animals.” This is such an incredibly huge number of animals caught from the ocean each year. “There is a danger that by the year 2048, there will be no fish left to catch in the oceans,” he said. When you are fishing, if you catch a pound of fish, you are also catching so many other types of marine species.

While you have the pound you wanted to catch, the others are discarded carelessly. Most of them die at that time. Every year forty percent of fish caught in the ocean are just wasted and are discarded.

In terms of kilos, it is probably twenty-eight billion kilos of fish which are just thrown away. This figure is really scary - And, this is only fish. There are shrimp and other types of seafood, but it is really difficult to account for all the other sentient beings.

WE NEED TO STOP ALL MASS FISHING THAT IS KILLING OUR OCEANS
